Get Started
When you come to No Place Like OM yoga studio in Danbury, CT, please note that the entrance to the studio is in the back of the building at 36 Tamack Avenue. Please arrive about 5-10 minutes before your class is scheduled to start (that's about when Marc arrives). It is important to give yourself enough time to transition from your daily life into the space we are creating for your yoga. We ask that you please remove your shoes and leave them on the mat supplied. If you are a first time student, we require that you fill out some forms before the start of class. Once class starts the doors are locked and will not be re-opened until the end of class. This is to provide safety for students belongings and to limit disturbance.
You'll want to wear comfortable clothes that allow easy movement like sweats, T-shirts, yoga pants, or even shorts that you can stretch in. You may want to wear some layers, since your body may warm up during the class, and you may become cool during relaxation. Consider wearing as little jewelry as you are comfortable with for your own comfort and safety. If you are coming from work, you're welcome to change into more comfortable clothes at our Studio's changing room or restroom.
A typical class will include centering, warm ups, asanas (often referred to as "yoga poses"), pranayama (breathing techniques), stretches, and savasana (a relaxation pose). Some classes may include meditation while others will not. Ultimately, this is your yoga. You will get from it what you put into it.
No Place Like Om has mats, blocks, ties, etc. for your use at the studio. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own mat if that feels more comfortable to you. The most important item to bring is an open beginner's mind and a willingness to learn and relax. Please leave your cell phones outside the studio to help preserve the studio as a safe and relaxing space.
Eat light! It is recommended that you not eat a large meal before class. Something light, like a piece of fruit or yogurt, is fine. If you are taking an evening class, try having a heavier lunch to help tide you over.
